About US

Stephen Frommel

Owner

Stephen has been working with fine jewelry since 2012. His expertise is clearly evident but don’t worry, he’s as down to earth as they come. Stephen arrived in Asheville by way of western TN. After graduating from Tennessee Tech University, he began to pursue his interest in jewelry and fine stones, subsequently earning his diploma from the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) in 2014. Under the guidance and mentorship of Estate Jewelry Ltd. founder, Richard Yaffin, Stephen fine-tuned his skills for curating a bespoke collection for today’s iteration of [what is now] Estate Jewelry AVL. Together with his friend & partner, Adam Strauss’ generational experience out of NY, they have a vast blend of knowledge between them to help you find the perfect piece.

What exactly IS estate jewelry?

Basically any jewelry that’s been preowned and preloved. It can be very old or relatively new.

What are the differences between antique, vintage, retro, and modern?

It’s generally accepted that anything older than 100 years is considered antique. Vintage is defined as being between 50-100 years of age. The retro era is from the 1960s, 70s or even 80s. Modern is the current decade/time period.
